Prerequisiti: No prerequisites are requested
Conoscenze e abilita' da acquisire: Course subtitle: Social Forestry
It has been said ‘Forestry is not about trees, it is about people’ and ‘Forestry is a social science’. Of course not everyone would agree, but forestry is certainly a relationship between people and trees. The course will stimulate thought and analysis about the people in forestry, and the methods available to understand their roles. After taking the course, the student will be able to identify stakeholders and suitable modes of participation for different stakeholders; analyse examples of community and urban forestry; appreciate the value of different types of knowledge in forest management; and understand ways to accommodate these social dimensions into forest policy and management.
Modalita' di esame: The final mark is made up of two components: a) class participation including field excursion (30% of final mark); b) written exam based on open questions (70% of final mark). Class participation will include group presentations of reading assignments in class, leading discussions to reflect on field trip and others.
Criteri di valutazione: Participation: active attitude in lectures and during class exercises. Written exam: knowledge of the topics, capacity to present and discuss them in a critical way, to place them in the correct context and to understand logic relationships with other topics of the course and, in general, with the other disciplines.
